Objects speak to me in the poetry of form: shape, color, value, rhythm, and texture. Through quiet contemplation of the ordinary, I find geometries that align to form secret meanings. Direct observation is always fooled by memory and association, becoming an exercise in questioning and imagining what I see. I am fascinated by the magic of pigment becoming a private, intimate painted world; the painting has its own internal logic. Another sort of intelligence comes into play while painting, a type of focused intuition in response to the physical act of painting. There is an empathic relationship between the physicality of the painting process, the brushstrokes, the scale, and how a painting is experienced, seen, and felt in the body. Painting is both an act of faith and a vehicle for transformation, and it is essential to remain open to the influences of the unknown.
"I am fascinated by the magic of pigment."
